Three Humorous Stories and What We Learn
- The Lawyer Who Was Too Literal
A lawyer was representing a client in a breach of contract case. The contract stated that the defendant was to deliver 100 widgets to the plaintiff by a certain date. The defendant failed to deliver the widgets, and the lawyer filed a lawsuit.
At trial, the lawyer called the defendant to the stand and asked him why he had not delivered the widgets. The defendant replied that he had misunderstood the contract. He thought that the contract said that he was to deliver 100 "wiggles" to the plaintiff.
The lawyer was furious. "Wiggles?" he shouted. "The contract clearly states that you were to deliver widgets!"
