With profound sadness, the Lisbon community mourns the passing of James Moraski, a cherished resident who left an enduring mark on the lives of many. James, who resided in Lisbon for over four decades, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2023, at the age of 75.
Born in Youngstown, Ohio, on April 22, 1947, James moved to Lisbon as a teenager with his family. He graduated from Lisbon David Anderson High School in 1965 and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
Upon returning home, James worked for nearly three decades at the Lisbon Works Plant of the former Crucible Steel Corporation. He was a proud member of the United Steelworkers Union and took an active role in supporting his fellow workers.
James was a devoted family man. He married the love of his life, Patricia (nee Petrella), in 1970, and they spent 52 happy years together. They raised two children, James Jr. and Jennifer, and were overjoyed to welcome six grandchildren.
James' unwavering faith was a guiding force in his life. He was a longtime member of the Lisbon First United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher and volunteered on various committees. His genuine kindness, compassion, and unwavering optimism left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Beyond his work and family, James was deeply involved in his community. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Lisbon Fire Department for over 20 years and was a member of the Lisbon American Legion Post 275.
James also served on the Lisbon Board of Education for 12 years, always advocating for the best interests of students and educators alike. His commitment to community service was recognized by the Lisbon Chamber of Commerce, which honored him with the Distinguished Citizen Award in 2015.
James' sudden passing has left a void in the hearts of his loved ones and the Lisbon community. He will be remembered for his infectious laughter, warm smile, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and neighbors.
A memorial service will be held in honor of James on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at the Lisbon First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lisbon Fire Department or the Lisbon First United Methodist Church.
